Camping
Torchwood's campsite (TV: Countrycide)

Camping was an activity performed by only one species in the entire universe: humans. While neither Ianto Jones nor Owen Harper enjoyed the pastime, Jack Harkness told them to celebrate their own uniqueness. (TV: Countrycide)

Camping consisted of spending one or more nights in the outdoors, away from major cities. Usually living in tents, (TV: Countrycide) sometimes out in the open, campers slept in sleeping bags during the nights. (PROSE: Rags) Ghost stories were often told during camping trips, especially with younger children. (PROSE: The Tree of Life) Pyjamas were also reportedly worn on children's trips. (PROSE: The Big Hunt) Common gear included a "camping stove", (PROSE: Human Nature) antibiotics, (PROSE: Set Piece) a first aid kit, (PROSE: The Ultimate Treasure) matches and insect repellant. Helen Sinclair's only holiday before joining the Eighth Doctor and Liv Chenka was a camping holiday in Jersey. (AUDIO: The Galileo Trap)

Ace at one point went on a school camping trip, and found the English countryside to be grim, cold and rainy. (PROSE: Strange England) Later looking back, she realised that it was then that she learned what true silence was; used to cities, she'd woken up at four o'clock in the morning because of the sheer lack of noise. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible) Owen could not stand the smell of grass in the Welsh countryside, and had never participated in camping before Brynblaidd, not even knowing how to put up a tent. (TV: Countrycide)

The Eighth Doctor, on the other hand, found camping fun: "Sitting around the fire, toasting marshmallows, singing songs..." (PROSE: Grimm Reality) The Fourth Doctor thought camping was a relaxing way to spend one's time, even in cold weather on a desert planet like Colophos. (AUDIO: Last of the Colophon)

Torchwood Three were forced to camp in the Brecon Beacons area when investigating mysterious disappearances they figured might be connected to the Cardiff Rift. After the Torchwood SUV was stolen, they made their way to Brynblaidd and encountered the real villains: not aliens, but human cannibals. (TV: Countrycide)

David Gibson's parents used to go camping at Llanfer Ceiriog when they first met in university. When David was five years old, he got lost in the surrounding woods, but he eventually relocated his parents, and fell into his mother's arms. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark)

Malanoor was made into a camping ground in the late 26th century to attract tourists; Bernice Summerfield made a bit of extra cash by bringing spoiled children there. According to Benny, there were chemical toilets and standpipe water systems to prevent visitors dying of dysentery and an electrostatic field protecting the visitors from dangerous lifeforms on the planet. (PROSE: Oblivion)

Benton once tried to provoke Dave Hutton by calling a Cub Scout master... "or is it Girl Guides?" (PROSE: Deadly Reunion)
