The Great Red Spot was, according to Norma Kelligan, the "largest, most violent storm in the solar system". It was more than double Earth's size and by Evelyn Smythe's time had been around for over three hundred years. (PROSE: Jupiter) Despite predictions that it would disappear by 2039, (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary) it persisted into the 26th century, when records indicated that it had been growing for five hundred years.
