Hexford
Hexford Village, (AUDIO: The Stuff of Nightmares) also called Happenstance Village, (PROSE: Mrs Frimbly's Festive Diary) was a village in Sussex. (AUDIO: Tsar Wars) Hexford Woods bordered the village, separating Hexford from the nearby Darkholmes; Darkholmes and Hexford shared a newspaper. (AUDIO: The Broken Crown) Little Hodcombe was also near Hexford. (AUDIO: And You Will Obey Me)
One of the Doctor's houses, Nest Cottage, was located there, (AUDIO: The Stuff of Nightmares, Tsar Wars, et al.) though by one account, the cottage was known as Baker's End (PROSE: Mrs Frimbly's Festive Diary) and owned by Tom Baker. (PROSE: Bafflement and Devotion, The Story of Fester Cat) Other locations in the village included a village green, a mini-market, a church, (AUDIO: Tsar Wars, et al.) a rectory, the White Hart, (AUDIO: The Broken Crown) the Hexford Village Hall, Cod Almighty, and the Dragon Pub. The Fourth Doctor's TARDIS became temporarily stuck in the village after the Demon stole components from its spatial geometer. During this period, the TARDIS could still travel through time. (AUDIO: The Relics of Time, et al.)

Behind the scenes
The village where Nest Cottage is located goes unnamed in Hornets' Nest and Demon Quest, with the name "Hexford" first appearing in Serpent Crest. In 2010, between the releases of Hornets' Nest and Serpent Crest, Paul Magrs wrote an unlicensed comic called The Housekeeper published in VWOORP! VWOORP! magazine which named the village "Darkholmes". The second story of Serpent Crest, The Broken Crown, mentions Darkholmes as being a neighbouring village to Hexford. When Magrs reused Darkholmes in the novel Fellowship of Ink, he introduced Hexford College as a location in the village.
