Different models of Autons

I suggest that, if no one has any reason why we shouldn't, we should sort the different models of Autons (plastic models, copies, etc.) and give them individual names like Auton-Clone, Auton-Sleeper and so forth. Suggestions for individuals names and models are appreciated. EltharionDrax 03:04, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

Main image

Nothing wrong with this image, is there?

I think my image (Autons-series-5.jpg) should be the main image. It is the latest variant of the Autons. The previous is an old one from the '70s, and isn't that great. And also it is not Rory, it's his Nestene duplicate. I don't see why my image shouldn't be up. Cortion 19:17, June 30, 2011 (UTC)

Nope. It is known that Nestene duplicate is Rory. They are the same. So basically you want an image of Rory to be the article for Autons? The fact that it's the last variant of Autons is a lie. There are no variants of Autons they are all the same, new series or old series. The current one shows what an Auton is in general, without actually showing a specific type of Auton (i.e on the Master page we would not show on incarnation of the Master). The idea of the mian Auton article is to show Auton in general (as the current one does) and not to show specific type of Auton or Nestene duplicate, as we have articles for them. Mini-mitch\talk 19:24, June 30, 2011 (UTC)
Rory's not an Auton, the Nestene duplicate is not Rory, just a duplicate, and everything he says is simply "software-talking". And hold on you said that Autons are all the same, so why did you say "and not to show a specific type of Auton or Nestene duplicate". That is basically an Auton, look at him, he's got a gun and everything. If you want me to crop certain bits I'd be happy to do so, but please say a very, very, very valid reason of why you don't want the image I added. Cortion 19:53, June 30, 2011 (UTC)
Stop with the cropping... what's oyuvalid reason? It's newer? That's weak. The article is about autons in general, not a nestene duplicate. The image that you want show a Nestene duplicate, we should be showing what an general Auton looks like, which is current image dose. It shows they are plastic and look like shop window dummies. Which they do. The one you want shows a human with a gun in his hand that looks like Rpry, which is not how Auton appear at all.
If a new Users, or any User in fact was to read this article they would understand what an Auton is. If they look at the main image they will go "Hang on, why do Autons look like Rory Williams? I though they were plastic, but they are showing one that looks human." It's confusing. I'm not saying don't add it to the article, but it can't be used as a main infobox because it does not help to decribe what an Auton looks like, it shows what Roty looked like when he was an Auton, but not what all/most Autons look like. Mini-mitch\talk 20:01, June 30, 2011 (UTC)
Alright, alright, although it should be the main image, it won't be the main image. Happy now? Although the image I wanted should be on this article somewhere. Cortion 20:07, June 30, 2011 (UTC)

Here we go again. The latest image isn't always the best. The "Spearhead" image sums up the topic fantastically. As for comments like "it should be the main image" and "the image I wanted should be on this article", they're not valid. Just because you want it, doesn't make it so. This has happened a few times now so it's clear I'm not getting through to you. Thanks----Skittles the hog--Talk 07:51, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

Nestene/Auton - List of Appearances|List of Appearances - Love & Monsters (TV story)?

Since when did the Autons or the Nestene Consciousness appear in TV: Love & Monsters? It says so in the Nestene/Auton - list of appearances, but when, if ever? 94.2.74.123talk to me 22:14, April 14, 2012 (UTC)

during the flashback sequence showing the events of "Rose". --12.157.80.153talk to me 23:32, April 14, 2012 (UTC)

For some odd reason they called using the name...

I have long noticed that during the revived series, with the exception of the credits in "Rose" they are never once referred to as Autons. Either "Living Plastic" or "Nestine Duplicates" I don't know why the recent writers don't want to use that title but I added it to the article.

Autons - not robots?

The page says that Autons are robots. However, I and multiple wiki users say they are not robots, but living plastic animated by the nestenes, with no robotic parts. Read this wiki discussions thread for more details - https://tardis.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000003590828

In a sense, both are correct. In Spearhead from Space, the Nestenes had to take control of a plastic factory to specifically build mannequins with the mechanical gun-hands, which it then possessed. It was Rose that debuted the idea that the disembodied Nestene consciousness could just take over regular shop window dummies and somehow imbue them with the retractable guns remotely. Meet the Doctor and Revenge of the Nestene suggest that the "rules" of the Nestene Consciousness's abilities were altered due to temporal fallout of the Time War. Thus, broadly speaking: Classic Series Autons are specifically designed artificial creations, who I think can be fairly called robots (although the Nestene Consciousness is obviously still possessing them), while NuWho Autons aren't robotic at all.
