Simon Archer
Simon Archer, BSC is a director of photography who began his work on Doctor Who with The Lodger. He lit three more episodes during Matt Smith's first series, including the finale. This made him the most prolific DP in the series, since the 2010 series used more DPs than any other series in BBC Wales history.
He is only the second DP in televised Doctor Who history to be a member of the prestigious British Society of Cinematographers, at the time of his involvement with the programme.
Immediately prior to his work on Doctor Who he was the DP for parts of all series of Ashes to Ashes, under the producership of Piers Wenger and Beth Willis, and much of the fourth series of Doc Martin, starring Martin Clunes.[1]
His career stretches back to the 1980s. He has a long resumé which includes not just television and film but also some of the most influential British music videos and adverts of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.[2][3] His film credits include Stiff Upper Lips, The Bachelor, and Another Life. In addition to Ashes to Ashes, Doctor Who and Doc Martin, he has also made significant cinematographic contributions to Sherlock, overseen by Sue Vertue, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat; Spooks; Demons; and Coming Home.
