Question

I carefully formatted these in line with how the audio, novel and comic stories pages were done. They have to remain consistent.

Adding a “number of era column” is unnecessarily cluttering the page. Additionally cameos don’t appear on the novel, comic and audio pages. Instead just the stories they’re the main Doctor of.

I imagine there are things to add, but for now. Please don’t change the original formatting. 81.108.82.15talk to me 17:40, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi I don't think you understand how wikis work. Any page is open to editing, and editors understand that their work might be changed/edited/deleted at any time. There is no ownership of pages. Shambala108 02:26, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
Apologies I didn't mean to come across as rude, but I do find you saying "I don't think you understand how wikis work" to be a bit of a personal attack so I won't even talk on that.
What I will say is I was requesting that the pages remain inline with how the comic, novel and audios pages were done as I was still editing and perfecting. 81.108.82.15talk to me 02:34, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
Not commenting on Shambala's comments, politely, can you make an account? You've done some fantastic work, (assuming all the 81.108 IPs are you) but you don't have a talk page, so there's no real way to communicate with you about editing. If you're not down for it, I understand! Najawin 02:36, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
I’m happy you’ve been enjoying my edits. I hope to get an account soon. 😀 81.108.82.15talk to me 11:03, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
Arguably, the comic, novel and audio pages also could do with a reworking. Having a list of appearances and not including every appearance would be blatant lying to the readers. Danniesen 08:54, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
My understanding is it’s about the stories “in their era”. The ones they’re the main Doctor of so readers can easier navigate the stories their Doctor is the focus if. Whereas the list of appearances include cameos with no distinction. 81.108.82.15talk to me 11:03, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
That’s fair. On a side-note, I meant to say “television stories” rather than “list of appearances”. Danniesen 11:40, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
81.108, I don't think that's accurate. We've always included cameos on pages like Eighth Doctor novels. Now that we're allowing information about authors and release dates on LoA subpages, I don't think there's a need for these pages anymore. – n8 () 16:14, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
I personally believe these pages should be kept. Bullet pointing my reason will be easiest.
  • They make navigation of a single medium easier. Especially for fans who just care about one medium.
  • I don’t think cameos should be on these pages instead showing stories in their era or that they’re the main Doctor of.
  • Additionally the lists also include stories that don’t feature them, but are part of their “era” or their presence is felt. So The Wedding of River Soung prequel would be on the Eleventh Doctor page here, but not at appearance.
  • It’s also tidier here and not one clustered box which I know some folk, myself included, struggle with.

If that's your intent with these pages, you need to be calling them something different. It's very counterintuitive that a story which doesn't feature the Twelfth Doctor would be on Twelfth Doctor television stories, or that a story which does feature him wouldn't be listed. Maybe it would be more appropriate to propose a forum discussion where more people can weigh in.
It's a shame that you're struggling with the LoA tables. They're sorted by medium by default, I don't see how medium-specific navigation could be easier. Could you elaborate on what's giving you a hard time? (This is slightly off-topic, so ordinarily I'd ask it on your talk page, but since you haven't registered an account, you don't have one.) – n8 () 20:41, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
I haven't added any minisodes that certain Doctors aren't in, but are in their era, yet, but it was a suggestion of a thing the articles could do. I titled them in line with "Seventh Doctor comic stories" and so on.
To answer the other question it's because the boxes are slightly overbearing. You look at them, you look away, look back and you've lost where you are. They're a bit cluttered. They're just not as easy on the eye as before. I think they'd look much better sorted by medium in the pretty boxes. And before anyone asks how you rank the mediums in order without breaking T:NPOV. Well. Alphabetically would be great. 81.108.82.15talk to me 20:51, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
Sure – but Seventh Doctor comic stories pretty clearly isn't "comic stories from the Seventh Doctor's era". I don't think this precedent generalises in the way you'd like it to.
Thanks for elaborating on your discomfort with the tables. What's unfortunate is that we can't separate them by medium without totally destroying the other benefits of the table format: for instance, being able to sort by release date or author, which completely wouldn't work if we split by medium. I will note that there's nothing T:NPOV-breaking about ordering mediums by precedence: that's what we've always done on appearances pages. – n8 () 19:37, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
I propose we keep these pages as they're great and useful for people who wanna get medium specific. I also propose the pages be reedited to be just stories they're the main Doctor of. As that's what the televised ones do. It's handy for someone who just wants to experience a Doctor's era in a specific medium. I would also like to add that a general readership might have more interest in medium specific pages rather than pages like Wet dream. I mean no disrespect to its creator, but we have to think what the readership would prefer. 81.108.82.15talk to me 21:24, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
