Arcadia (planet)
Arcadia was the name of at least one place, but plausibly more than one place, in the universe.
According to one account, it was planet on which a Human colony was established in the 26th century. It was a non-technological paradise and served as a living specimen for a centuries-long experiment. (NA: Deceit)
Other references to Arcadia were considerably more vague, and failed to label it a planet. It was possible that these additional references considered a city, planet, system, or empire, which may have been different from the 26th century human colony of the same name. The principal fact known about Arcadia from these sources was that it was the site of a major event in the Last Great Time War. The Doctor once mentioned that he was present at the Fall of Arcadia during that war. (DW: Doomsday) Brother Lussar once tempted the Doctor with the ability to resurrect Arcadia through the completion of the Skasis Paradigm. (DW: School Reunion) Later the Doctor took Amy Pond to Arcadia, suggesting that it was not time-locked like other parts of the Time War. (DW: Vincent and the Doctor) Arcadian diamonds were known to be very valuable. (TW: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang)
- While it is plausible that all references to Arcadia in televised episodes are about the same place, nothing established by NA: Deceit has ever been even alluded to in televised Doctor Who. Indeed the name, "Arcadia", was revealed by episode commentaries as having been the invention of Toby Whithouse, the writer of School Reunion. Since he is not a known fan of 1990s Doctor Who novels, it is reasonable to assume that his usage of the name — and therefore all the others that flowed from it in BBC Wales episodes — do not, in fact, refer to the Arcadia of Deceit.
