An Argentinian artist who was highly praised sacrificed his integrity to paint a portrait of Henry van Statten that was "crass" enough for Van Statten to enjoy. Van Statten was aware the artist had painted the garish portrait ironically and assumed he had sneered during the composition, but did not mind as he liked the final result.
