Kate Shortman was an "elite athlete" and Olympic medal winner. Swimming was "[her] thing".

Biography

Shortman was brought aboard the STARSHED by Patience Patience in order to help with the temperature, as the ship was refueling on the planet Frosty-Coldy-Chilly-Freezy-Pop. Patience proposed that, as Shortman was athletic, she could use a space bicycle to generate enough heat to warm them up. She agreed, leading Doctor Doctor to reveal the bicycle already present in the STARSHED, covered by a cloth.

Although the Doctor and Patience appreciated her warming up the STARSHED, as an Olympic athlete, Shortman apparently "[couldn't] stop" once she put her mind to something, leading the STARSHED to become hotter than they had wanted. Shortman suggested to them that she'd continue cycling until the next Olympics in four years. (TV: The STARSHED is just too cool! [+]Loading...["The STARSHED is just too cool! (TV story)"])
