Toclafane

The Toclafane were fairy tale monsters from Gallifrey, their name, like the Bogeymen on Earth, just made up.
In 2008, the Master claimed to have contacted the Toclafane (in reality a race of robotic beings) and, using a paradox machine linked to the Doctor's TARDIS, allowed the enture race to pour through to decimate the Human population and create a Time Lord Empire. (DW: The Sound of Drums)
The Toclafane were revealed to actually be altered Humans from the future at the end of the universe where the last of Humans went to Utopia. They found themselves to be unable to escape from the end and regressed inwards where they built small spherical containment system and possessed a child-like mind. They were later found by The Master who utilized a paradox machine to allow the Toclafane to travel back in time to modern Earth where they began to slaughter the population in order to establish the New Time Lord Empire.
