Update

I've cleaned up, linked, and categorized this story. And created a new category in the process, too. --Golden Monkey 22:16, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Companions

Why are there two ramdom charecters down as companions?

In the commentary RTD only says that they appear he never says that they are companions.

Haven't heard it myself, but I'll remove then just now Jack's the man - 23:43, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Rumours

Before The Next Doctor was broadcasted, a rumour link was sent up on the article pages and a message was inserted that you could only add rumour if there was proof could an admin do that to this page, it would help to root some really stupid rumours. Bigshowbower 05:03, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

  • I don't know if it's always necessary to have a source for rumours, as this could include widespread fan-forum rumours which are difficult to cite. However I do think some common sense has to come into play. For example I just deleted a rather spurious rumour -- one I've yet to see anywhere else -- suggesting that simply because it's a modern day story, the Brigadier and even Benton or Yates could appear. That could be said of any modern-day Who story; absolutely nothing notable. The only companion to have been rumored is Martha and only because a tabloid reported she may appear in one of the specials. Personally I think she'll be involved in the lead-up to regeneration, not get burned off on an early special where clearly the focus will be on Michelle Ryan's character, anyway (especially if the related rumour that she's companion-in-waiting for Matt Smith bears fruit). 23skidoo 19:52, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Should the article be protected against unregistered user edits? --Tangerineduel 04:37, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
It might not hurt, if it gets overloaded with nonsense. But I don't know if it's gotten that bad yet. 23skidoo 20:01, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
The Brigadier rumour popped up again and I deleted it and I might delete the stuff about Michelle Ryan being Jenny or the Rani and replace it with someone from his past Bigshowbower 11:51, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Why are people putting in rumours on things that have been confirmed. Such as "Professor Malcoms" second name being Taylor. This has been confirmed so why have it in the rumours section. Catkind121 12:07, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Synopsis and Enemy

Where did the information for the Synopsis and the enemy come from, it sounds suspect so I'm going to remove it

Dubai controversy

Right now mentioning the Dubai filming controversy in "Story Notes" is probably good enough, but we should be prepared to make it its own section -- perhaps even its own article -- if the brouhaha gets big. We should make sure, though, that if anyone adds quotes, etc. connected to this topic that they be accompanied by sources - no generic "RTD said last week..." type comments. 23skidoo 16:13, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Species/Enemy

Where are the sources for all 3 enemies - Zarbi, Nimons and Tritovores ?? And why are they in the main enemy box list ? Until I see a source I'm deleting them. Michael Downey

  • Nothing's been announced officially, although the Tritovore name has been mentioned I believe by RTD; a source related to this would be authoritative. The others are still rumors. 23skidoo 20:00, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

The Name may have been mentioned by RTD but their is no official conformation that he has said it or announced that their this stories enemy so for the last time i am deleting and if i see it again unless with sources the person who placed it will be blocked. Michael Downey 19:58, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

I think the Zarbi and Nimon rumors started with the announcement of the title of the episode, due to associations with deaths and destroying planets (or some such.)
All three of these rumors strike me as unlikely given the promise of two new alien species from RTD - which unlike these things I have seen sourced. But these things definitely don't belong.--TheOmnius 00:23, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
By the way RTD did say that there will be aliens called Tritovorse's in the story he also said he wished to call it Planet of the Zarbi. Catkind121 13:19, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Where/when does he say this? --TheOmnius 04:17, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
In the Commentary for The Next Doctor so you can be quiet about that one. Catkind121 11:45, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Except that RTD is clearly joking in the commentary to TND . . . CzechOut | 16:24, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Billie Piper's accent

I took out an uncalled for and completely unsourced bit of POV weasel wording regarding Piper's accent in Turn Left. The fact critics and fans noticed the lisp hsa been covered (wouldn't hurt to include a source, though the episode itself can be used as a source), but the statement that she sounded like a "chav" not only crosses the line potentially with whatever the Wikia equivalent of Wikipedia's BLP policy is, but it's an utterly meaningless term to anyone outside England. 23skidoo 19:59, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I haven't seen the actual item you're referring to, so I have no idea if this is actually relevant or not, but in the episode New Earth (TV story), Cassandra takes over Rose's body, and upon examining her body, clothes, and accent declares, "[My god], I'm a chav!" The first two words may not be exact, but they convey the point.
Like I said, relevant or not, I've no idea. Take the information for whatever value it has.--TheOmnius 01:05, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Hey I nominated that for Quote of the week but I frazed it wrongly I put "Oh My God I am a Chav" Catkind121 13:21, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Since posting my original note I've found out what chav means (sort of a variation of "emo" it seems). And if the accent is identified as "chav" in an episode, that's cool, but it was still irrelevant to this article. 23skidoo 02:38, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Chavs are not Emo's Catkind121 09:24, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
That's how it's working out here in Canada, since we have no equivalent. 23skidoo 02:51, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Return of the Rani rumour?

So it's been pointed out that "Lady Christina De Souza" is an anagram of "Lady C.D.Souza Is The Rani". Which has lead to the rumour that Michelle Ryan will be the new Rani. Should this be listed under the rumour section? I have no idea where it originated from, but it is a correct (if sort of weak) anagram. And we know the Doctor who production team is fond of anagrams (torchwood anyone?). Plus the idea of the Rani returning has been a popular theory ever since we saw a shot of a hand picking up a ring from the remains of the Master's ashes. 74.184.32.187 20:46, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

This is covered by the first rumour Bigshowbower 04:27, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Filming Locations

What appears to be a quote box has been added under Filming Locations. It reads as follows:

The darkness grows and the light is your heart. You for one are my tears and I am your happiness. Never let the summer wind blows in the stench of pure crap die. I am the night when pigs fly and the day when your are here. Never leave me. Never run. run

I have for now removed it, as it is certainly in the wrong section if not outright vandalism.

Does the page need to be locked until after it airs next week?--TheOmnius 19:32, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

By the Way I dont think we should lock it. But people are editing it and putting a putting what basically is a synopsis in the plot section. I have changed all that anyway. Catkind121 12:03, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Pitch Black, anyone?

I've just seen the BBC advert for this, and I have to say it reminds me of the sci-fi horror film which came out in 2000, Pitch Black. And the resemblences are more than superficial. Several people stranded on a desert planet that has three suns, pursued by strange flying entities? I mean, honestly. The tacky CGI monsters I glimpsed in the ad look ridiculously like the tacky CGI/prosthetic monsters form the film. Anyone else know where I'm coming from? --Solbur 19:26, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I know what you're talking about, but I don't think the show will have much more in common with the movie than a one sentence summary of the basic setting.
Pitch Black=Action flick that is at times sexist and/or mindless.
Doctor Who=Sci-Fi show that is at times silly and/or lots of fun.
I'd say the resemblances are purely superficial.
But that's just me. --TheOmnius 04:01, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Having seen the episode now, I have to admit, yes, I jumped to conclusions there. Still, the appearance of the Rays is an interesting coincidence (ridged body with "wings" and a long, thin tail, eyeless with a jagged-toothed mouth), and it is strange how they just decided to have San Helios have three suns. --Solbur 07:34, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Enemies

The info box says that the Tritovores are enemies. Well... they're not (just watch the episode). --CGW 19:33, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Contemporary Setting - c. (October?) 2009?

Are the UNIT and contemporary settings confirmed to be London 2010? The Christmas special was set in the past this year and there's nothing to suggest that The Stolen Earth/Journey's End was set near the end of 2009. In fact it must have been before October 2009, the setting of The Day of the Clown which was set after Sarah Jane met the Doctor again. This episode could very well be set in 2009 as well, the gap year may be used to sort out the "one year out" thing caused by Aliens of London having to be set in 2006. On another note, the Doctor only mentioned the Wormhole traveling through space, so the San Helios scenes must take place during the contemporary time setting as well. -khlieeq 21:35, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry forgot it was set during Easter, I'm a bit slow today. Although the "one year out" thing could still be solved if the Christmas specials aren't set during a contemporary year. - khlieeq 21:42, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
On a related note, any reason the infobox currently says circa 2009? Since we know it happens on a specific day, Easter, surely it's either 2009 or it's not. There shouldn't be anything circa about it. Is there any reason not to provide the date of 12 April 2009?
Also, if it is 12 April 2009, and I'd think that's more likely than anything, do we have any filmed evidence of where that puts this story relative to other episodes of Series 4? Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything, but maybe there's a enwspaper or chiron somewhere . . . CzechOut | 14:23, January 23, 2010 (UTC)

Planets in the sky reference so it must be 2010

Planets in the Sky reference means it can't take place before 2009, recession problem reference and foreshadowing mean it can't take place after The End of Time, which is right near the end of 2009. The End of Time is late December 2009, takes place after Planet of the Dead. The Sarah Jane Advenutres series 3 takes place after Planet of the Dead based on dialouge and before The End of Time, which is late 2009. So there we have it, it's in Easter 2009. Easter's month changes, though... so it is a very weird placment. Delton Menace 15:16, February 28, 2010 (UTC)

An anon IP just changed the date to 2010. I think the best consensus we have is that it's Easter 2009, and Journey's End must have been before Easter. That either means that one of the novels is wrong, or that Easter 2009 fell in a different month in the Whoniverse than in our universe. But placing it in 2010 would mean it took place after The End of Time, which is impossible, as Delton Menace pointed out (above).
So, I changed it back to 2009. --Falcotron 10:49, May 23, 2010 (UTC)
Hang on when Rose left there was NOTHING (as i know) that said it was still one year ahead Joshoedit 04:16, December 31, 2010 (UTC)
Yes there was. "The Runaway Bride" was after "Doomsday", Series 3 present-day episodes were after "The Runaway Bride", "Voyage of the Damned" was after Series 3 present-day episodes, Series 4 present-day episodes were after "Voyage of the Damned". -- Noneofyourbusiness 20:14, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

Anyway, since when was the recession problem stated to be over after Christmas 2009? And why couldn't an ad for Naismith's phone still be on a bus after his arrest? And the foreshadowing doesn't bar anything - the Ood were also foreshadowing it from much, much longer after it had happened than the four months after that Carmen would be. Time-sensitivity and psychic powers relative to the Doctor's personal timeline.

The real problem is the Sarah Jane stuff. If "Planet of the Dead" was 2010, so would be Sarah Jane Series 3, as "Mona Lisa's Revenge" contained a reference to the Cup of Athelstan being stolen earlier in the year. And "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith" is implied to be the first time Luke's seen the Doctor since "Journey's End", with the cameo in "The End of Time" being the second. Where's the definitive statement that "The End of Time" was 2009, again? -- Noneofyourbusiness 20:14, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

They nicked the name from Halo

Is it just me or does 'San Helious' sound a lot like 'Sanghelios'? 86.144.13.77 21:58, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

It's not just you. I actually pointed that out to my family when I was watching it (they didn't know what I was on about, they're not as geeky as me). Still, it is excusable. San means Saint in Spanish and is often used in the names of places (San Francisco, San Diego, etc.) which fits as San Helios looked like a sort of futuristic holiday destination, and Helios means "Sun" in Latin, which makes perfect sense seeing as the planet has three suns in its sky. But with all this in mind, it's still an interesting coincidence. --Solbur 08:03, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

The Doctor's Song

I thought it already ended with Journey's End.. maybe it's just because Song of Freedom was reused in there that I was thinking that. Anyhow, since it was quite clearly stated they're trying to do something really new, the "song ending soon" is probably a reference to the Doctor's upcoming regeneration.. maybe even end of the regeneration cycle. If so, I'm sure we'll know more about it in a few months. Adys 22:37, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Maybe Gallifrey and the Time Lords will return and his song of loneliness will be ended. --86.160.245.131 12:10, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

"He Will Knock Four Times"

This appears to turn up in most of the sections of the article, I suggest that it is kept under one section (possibly Rumours?) just so that its not repeated constantly throughout the article?

Question about London buses

I thought about putting this under plot holes, but I realized there may be a simpler explanation that's not obvious to a Colonial like me... do London buses not have radios? At the beginning, when Christine is getting away on the bus, and the inspector sees her, I thought "Why doesn't he radio police dispatch, who would tell the transit dispatcher to stop the bus?" So - low-tech buses or glaring plot hole? (The simple answer would be, if they stopped the bus, they don't have a story.) Monkey with a Gun 02:05, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Also, we know that the inspector is absolutely MAD and so determined and crazed to catch Christina, so maybe he just didn't think of it? Or, there was a problem with that bus's radio, or it didn't have one, or perhaps the inspector wanted to have the satisfaction of making the bus stop himself, since we can see he is obviously a man who has a lot of sarcasm and pride.

Re. The London Bus

The bus used in the production was a Bristol VR registration RUA461W, they probebly gave it a fictitous registration to make the vehicle look 'newer'.

According to a website (http://bcv.robsly.com/rua461w.html), the bus was severley damaged in transit (but was still used in filming) and a replacement was to be sent (GGM84W) to Dubai.

Chocolate egg = Jelly baby

The Doctor's fascination with the chocolate egg really reminded me of the Fourth Doctorn fascination with Jelly babies. Could that have been a homage or reference of some sort? or just a Easter coincidence maybe?38.100.42.50 16:36, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

I think it was a deliberate reference to Easter. If it was going to be a homage to jelly babies I think they would have just put jelly babies in as they did in The Sound of Drums. --Tangerineduel 17:04, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

References

Under other, the following is given: "After returning to Earth and calling Malcolm to tell him to close the portal, The Doctor looks at the phone and asks "Is that Numberwang?" in reference to That Mitchell and Webb Look." I've listened back to that particular scene quite a few times now, and I just don't see where this has come from. All I'm getting is "He's hung up on me". Which to me makes a lot more sense, given that the doctor then says "He's hung up again!" when he next tries to speak. As a fan of that Mitchell & Webb Look, I have to say, I think I'd be able to tell a numberwang reference if it was so obviously made!

"Knocking", It and He

In the "Knocking four times" line, there are two subject descriptions; one for "It" (out of the darkness) and one for "He" (will knock four times), possibly describing different things, a person (or other), and an item/genderless creature/monstrosity. A scripting error, maybe, or it could be a hint to a plotline in a future episode?

'It' could also describe a Planet that is returning or a race is returning and one lost planet and race do come to mind. --Assassin of death 11:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Whatever it may be, speculation about It and the Knocking does not belong in the Continuity section, which is only for on-screen facts and references. Until we find out what it all means, any guesses need to be in Myths and Rumours. 23skidoo 02:48, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
they don't even belong there. they belong in The Howling section of the Forums. guesswork belongs there. --Stardizzy2 23:42, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Redirect

I don't know how but I think if you searched 2009 Easter Special it should redirect you to Planet of the Dead (Tv story), I am not saying anyone has to do it, I am just saying if it is quite easy and fast than we should have it. User: SuperHeroChaos

  • I don't think it's necessary, as the title is widely known now. I don't' believe there are redirects for, say, 2005 Christmas Special. If there are any, they aren't needed. If Doctor Who was one of those shows that doesn't display episode titles, then I'd say we needed such a redirect. But it does, so we don't. 23skidoo 02:50, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

DVD image

I just noticed the DVD image has a watermark, which probably renders it in violation of fair use. Since it's been out for a couple weeks now in the UK, I don't suppose anyone could scan the cover and replace the image? 23skidoo 22:43, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Humans on Buses

When the Doctor says "Humans on buses, always blaming me. do you think that's a reference to the events that occurred on Crusader 50 during the episode Midnight? Since Crusader 50 was in a sense, a bus, and he was blamed by the others for what was happening.--Chicken Bond 22:39, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Yes, that's why it's already mentioned. -<Azes13 19:44, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

(dis)continuity

The nearside mirror, by the door, keeps appearing and disappearing throughout the programme ... at one point, just as they are boarding the bus to finally leave, it's shown on the floor reflecting them boarding. As it takes off, the CGI shows it attached again, as it is at the final scenes back in London. 87.81.12.15 15:40, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

  • I think that's more of a production error. A more questionable discontinuity problem is if the bus passed through the wormhole, how did the police cars that were behind it get to the other opening of the tunnel without passing through the wormhole? Mc hammark 17:19, April 16, 2010 (UTC)

IT is clearly shown that they went around the tunnel, but I can't answer the first one. User:General MGD 109
