Technically "sacramental wine" for use in "religious rituals" was exempted from Prohibition by the Volstead Act - which clarified the 18th Amendment for legal purposes... This detail would have been well known at the time especially by the Priest who would have used such for communion services... Naturally, Jack could have been making a joke by calling their presumably illegal product by an otherwise legal name.Watcher4200 02:08, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
The idea seemed to be that it was sacramental wine, which was legal, but the priest had some extra sacramental wine which he was selling for a profit. That wouldn't be legal as it was no longer being used for religious purposes.Icecreamdif 20:30, August 26, 2011 (UTC)
