Haemovore
Once Human and driven by the thirst for blood, the Haemovores did the will of the Ancient One, who in turn did the work of Fenric.
Characteristics
There are two known types of Haemovores. One type was similar to a pale Human with feral features and talons. They could speak and act normally, but they have a predatory mindset and could lure Humans with the promise of sex or cause them to feel deep anguish or despair. The other type was a blue, crusty humanoid with suckers covering their face and body. The Haemovores wore the clothes in which they "died".
- It’s unknown what the exact connection is between the two types, but the older Haemovores were of the lumpier variety, which would imply that they change form with age. The Ancient One was the most deformed.
In both forms, the Haemovores were known to have abnormal strength and power. They could survive indefinitely underwater and could, the Doctor explained, weld metal with nothing but their claws and tear through metal with ease. On attacking Humans, they drained their blood (which sometimes transformed the victim into another Haemovore, but sometimes just kills them). The Haemovores can be stopped with strong faith, which can create a psychic barrier. In the presence of the barrier they often respond with ear-splitting shrieks.
The Haemovores followed the telepathic command of the Ancient One, in turn the unwilling servant of Fenric. The Ancient One, could, if he chose, kill them with a thought.
History
The Ancient One originated in a distant future Earth on where industrial waste had rendered Earth a dying world, leaving only him alive. Fenric transported him to the past. Fenric sought the flask in which the Doctor had trapped Fenric, in hopes of Fenric could return him to his own time and followed the flask to the town later called Maiden's Point.
- By implication, the Ancient One transformed humans into Haemovores and the Haemovores transformed more humans into Haemovores.
Stories of "vampires" in eastern Europe persisted. Presumbably a Haemovore infection had occured there.
Fenric's "wolves" (the Haemovores) killed Soviet and British soldiers as part of a trap to defeat the Doctor. Once they had served their purpose in this plan, Fenric ordered the Ancient One to kill the Haemovores with a thought. (DW: The Curse of Fenric)
- After the Doctor defeat of Fenric, the Ancient One's future may or may not still exist.
Notes
The Haemovores share many characteritics with vampires, a separate species which does not originate in the Ancient One's future.
