The Preacher was one of the population of Mercy. He prayed for the freedom of their town after it was trapped by a wandering cyborg who wanted to terminate Kahler-Jex for his crimes as a war criminal. When the Gunslinger entered the town, he was inside the church praying for the population's survival.
