The British Royal Family were the family of the kings and queens of the United Kingdom.
Queen Victoria had haemophilia, a mutation which she didn't inherit from either of her parents. The Tenth Doctor jovially suggested the "royal disease" was actually werewolf cells which she passed to her children. They might eventually mature in the 21st century. (TV: Tooth and Claw)
