- The Great Exhibition is held in London. The Doctor attempts to take Tegan and Nyssa to this event when the TARDIS lands instead at Heathrow in 1982 ("Time-Flight").
- The 30.86 m schooner-yacht America, representing the New York Yacht Club, crosses the Atlantic Ocean in seventeen days on its way to the Isle of Wight, where it wins the British 100 Guinea yacht race, thereafter known as the America's Cup Race ("Enlightenment").
