Captured Ship?
It seems likely to me that the T-Mat company and/or Earth's government must have captured the ship belonging to the Ice Warriors that invaded the lunar base. Given that the establishment of the T-Mat network had killed manned space travel programs, reverse engineering the ship seems the only way they could have effectively prosecuted the Thousand Day War and colonised the solar system all the way out to Pluto by the time period of Transit.
