An atomic accelerator was a feature of spacecraft by the 372nd century.
The Morestran probe ship sent to Zeta Minor in 37166 had an atomic accelerator. On the advice of the Fourth Doctor, Salamar ordered for it to be coupled with the ship's force field. This fended off an attack on the probe by the anti-matter creature. (TV: Planet of Evil)
