Galaxy IV was one of Earth's artificial communications satellites in the 1990s. When the satellite failed on 19 May 1998, it crippled the US pager networks, several broadcast news services, and even some credit card verification. Doctors, who relied on pagers for their work, were therefore forced to remain in hospitals at all times in order to be in contact. (PROSE: Millennium Shock)
