Talk:Planet of the Dead (TV story)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

ROFL! "The episode, judging by the title, will probably feature some dead guys on a planet." That's rich. I don't have the heart to correct it.RaquelApplegate 10:04, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Update

I've cleaned up, linked, and categorized this story. And created a new category in the process, too. --Golden Monkey 22:16, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Companions

Why are there two ramdom charecters down as companions?

In the commentary RTD only says that they appear he never says that they are companions.

Haven't heard it myself, but I'll remove then just now Jack's the man - 23:43, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Rumours

Before The Next Doctor was broadcasted, a rumour link was sent up on the article pages and a message was inserted that you could only add rumour if there was proof could an admin do that to this page, it would help to root some really stupid rumours. Bigshowbower 05:03, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

  • I don't know if it's always necessary to have a source for rumours, as this could include widespread fan-forum rumours which are difficult to cite. However I do think some common sense has to come into play. For example I just deleted a rather spurious rumour -- one I've yet to see anywhere else -- suggesting that simply because it's a modern day story, the Brigadier and even Benton or Yates could appear. That could be said of any modern-day Who story; absolutely nothing notable. The only companion to have been rumored is Martha and only because a tabloid reported she may appear in one of the specials. Personally I think she'll be involved in the lead-up to regeneration, not get burned off on an early special where clearly the focus will be on Michelle Ryan's character, anyway (especially if the related rumour that she's companion-in-waiting for Matt Smith bears fruit). 23skidoo 19:52, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Should the article be protected against unregistered user edits? --Tangerineduel 04:37, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
It might not hurt, if it gets overloaded with nonsense. But I don't know if it's gotten that bad yet. 23skidoo 20:01, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
The Brigadier rumour popped up again and I deleted it and I might delete the stuff about Michelle Ryan being Jenny or the Rani and replace it with someone from his past Bigshowbower 11:51, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Why are people putting in rumours on things that have been confirmed. Such as "Professor Malcoms" second name being Taylor. This has been confirmed so why have it in the rumours section. Catkind121 12:07, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Synopsis and Enemy

Where did the information for the Synopsis and the enemy come from, it sounds suspect so I'm going to remove it

Dubai controversy

Right now mentioning the Dubai filming controversy in "Story Notes" is probably good enough, but we should be prepared to make it its own section -- perhaps even its own article -- if the brouhaha gets big. We should make sure, though, that if anyone adds quotes, etc. connected to this topic that they be accompanied by sources - no generic "RTD said last week..." type comments. 23skidoo 16:13, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Species/Enemy

Where are the sources for all 3 enemies - Zarbi, Nimons and Tritovores ?? And why are they in the main enemy box list ? Until I see a source I'm deleting them. Michael Downey

  • Nothing's been announced officially, although the Tritovore name has been mentioned I believe by RTD; a source related to this would be authoritative. The others are still rumors. 23skidoo 20:00, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

The Name may have been mentioned by RTD but their is no official conformation that he has said it or announced that their this stories enemy so for the last time i am deleting and if i see it again unless with sources the person who placed it will be blocked. Michael Downey 19:58, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

I think the Zarbi and Nimon rumors started with the announcement of the title of the episode, due to associations with deaths and destroying planets (or some such.)
All three of these rumors strike me as unlikely given the promise of two new alien species from RTD - which unlike these things I have seen sourced. But these things definitely don't belong.--TheOmnius 00:23, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
By the way RTD did say that there will be aliens called Tritovorse's in the story he also said he wished to call it Planet of the Zarbi. Catkind121 13:19, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Where/when does he say this? --TheOmnius 04:17, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
In the Commentary for The Next Doctor so you can be quiet about that one. Catkind121 11:45, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Except that RTD is clearly joking in the commentary to TND . . . CzechOut | 16:24, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Billie Piper's accent

I took out an uncalled for and completely unsourced bit of POV weasel wording regarding Piper's accent in Turn Left. The fact critics and fans noticed the lisp hsa been covered (wouldn't hurt to include a source, though the episode itself can be used as a source), but the statement that she sounded like a "chav" not only crosses the line potentially with whatever the Wikia equivalent of Wikipedia's BLP policy is, but it's an utterly meaningless term to anyone outside England. 23skidoo 19:59, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I haven't seen the actual item you're referring to, so I have no idea if this is actually relevant or not, but in the episode New Earth (TV story), Cassandra takes over Rose's body, and upon examining her body, clothes, and accent declares, "[My god], I'm a chav!" The first two words may not be exact, but they convey the point.
Like I said, relevant or not, I've no idea. Take the information for whatever value it has.--TheOmnius 01:05, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Hey I nominated that for Quote of the week but I frazed it wrongly I put "Oh My God I am a Chav" Catkind121 13:21, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Since posting my original note I've found out what chav means (sort of a variation of "emo" it seems). And if the accent is identified as "chav" in an episode, that's cool, but it was still irrelevant to this article. 23skidoo 02:38, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Chavs are not Emo's Catkind121 09:24, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Return of the Rani rumour?

So it's been pointed out that "Lady Christina De Souza" is an anagram of "Lady C.D.Souza Is The Rani". Which has lead to the rumour that Michelle Ryan will be the new Rani. Should this be listed under the rumour section? I have no idea where it originated from, but it is a correct (if sort of weak) anagram. And we know the Doctor who production team is fond of anagrams (torchwood anyone?). Plus the idea of the Rani returning has been a popular theory ever since we saw a shot of a hand picking up a ring from the remains of the Master's ashes. 74.184.32.187 20:46, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

This is covered by the first rumour Bigshowbower 04:27, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Filming Locations

What appears to be a quote box has been added under Filming Locations. It reads as follows:

The darkness grows and the light is your heart. You for one are my tears and I am your happiness. Never let the summer wind blows in the stench of pure crap die. I am the night when pigs fly and the day when your are here. Never leave me. Never run. run

I have for now removed it, as it is certainly in the wrong section if not outright vandalism.

Does the page need to be locked until after it airs next week?--TheOmnius 19:32, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

By the Way I dont think we should lock it. But people are editing it and putting a putting what basically is a synopsis in the plot section. I have changed all that anyway. Catkind121 12:03, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Pitch Black, anyone?

I've just seen the BBC advert for this, and I have to say it reminds me of the sci-fi horror film which came out in 2000, Pitch Black. And the resemblences are more than superficial. Several people stranded on a desert planet that has three suns, pursued by strange flying entities? I mean, honestly. The tacky CGI monsters I glimpsed in the ad look ridiculously like the tacky CGI/prosthetic monsters form the film. Anyone else know where I'm coming from? --Solbur 19:26, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I know what you're talking about, but I don't think the show will have much more in common with the movie than a one sentence summary of the basic setting.
Pitch Black=Action flick that is at times sexist and/or mindless.
Doctor Who=Sci-Fi show that is at times silly and/or lots of fun.
I'd say the resemblances are purely superficial.
But that's just me. --TheOmnius 04:01, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Enemies

The info box says that the Tritovores are enemies. Well... they're not (just watch the episode). --CGW 19:33, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Contemporary Setting - c. (October?) 2009?

Are the UNIT and contemporary settings confirmed to be London 2010? The Christmas special was set in the past this year and there's nothing to suggest that The Stolen Earth/Journey's End was set near the end of 2009. In fact it must have been before October 2009, the setting of The Day of the Clown which was set after Sarah Jane met the Doctor again. This episode could very well be set in 2009 as well, the gap year may be used to sort out the "one year out" thing caused by Aliens of London having to be set in 2006. On another note, the Doctor only mentioned the Worm-whole traveling through space, so the San Helios scenes must take place during the contemporary time setting as well. -khlieeq 21:35, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry forgot it was set during Easter, I'm a bit slow today. Although the "one year out" thing could still be solved if the Christmas specials aren't set during a contemporary year. - khlieeq 21:42, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Is it just me or does 'San Helious' sound a lot like 'Sanghelios'? 86.144.13.77 21:58, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

The Doctor's Song

I thought it already ended with Journey's End.. maybe it's just because Song of Freedom was reused in there that I was thinking that. Anyhow, since it was quite clearly stated they're trying to do something really new, the "song ending soon" is probably a reference to the Doctor's upcoming regeneration.. maybe even end of the regeneration cycle. If so, I'm sure we'll know more about it in a few months. {{SUBST:User:Adys/SigX}} 22:37, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
