The Beast (The Impossible Planet)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
For the parasitic species of the same name, see The Beast.

The Beast was a colossal demon locked away in the heart of planet Krop Tor. He said that he had many names, including Satan, and claimed to be the essence of all Devil-like figures in religion and myth. He also claimed to have been imprisoned since before the universe. The beast said that Rose Tyler would die in battle, but she didn't recently so the Doctor said that he lied, but we see that he didn't because Rose went to a parallel world but in the world that Rose is really from she was on the list of the dead.

I am the rage and the vile and the voracity. I am the Prince and the Fallen. I am the Enemy, I am the Sin and the fear and darkness. I shall never die! The thought of me is forever, in the bleeding hearts of men, in their vanity and obsessions and lust! Nothing shall ever destroy me! Nothing! The Beast. [The Satan Pit [src]]

Characteristics

Physical form

You will die; and I shall live. The Beast. [The Satan Pit [src]]

When the Doctor encountered him, the Beast resembled a gargantuan crimson horned figure with a corpse-like face, bound by chains. While possessed by the Beast, its hosts had eyes with crimson irises.

Powers and abilities

I am the sin; and the temptation. And the desire. And the pain and the loss. The Beast. [The Impossible Planet [src]]

The Beast could manifest himself through electronic media, including computer voices and, crudely through hologram viewers. Its mind could leave its body and possess a single hive mind of the Ood collectively or a single Human individually, though not more than one at one time. He had the power of telepathy and, through a host, telekinesis. Possession of a human subject affected the host's skin, causing strange markings to appear all over their face and body; and vocal chords, allowing them to speak with different pitches simultaneously. Whether a single human or a hive mind, the eyes of those possessed by the beast glowed a fiery red. The Beast could also project fire from his mouth. His hosts could also physically survive in a vacuum indefinitely. (DW: The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit) The Doctor realized that the Beast, or the Devil, or Satan was "an idea in the minds of men", and not a physical form, and that is why it could manifest into others, and could survive indefinitely after the destruction of its body.

History

I have been imprisoned for an eternity; but no more. The pit is open; and I am free! The Beast. [The Impossible Planet [src]]

Though the exact circumstances are unknown, it is known that the Disciples of the Light confined the Beast to the planet later known as Krop Tor and placed the planet in orbit around the black hole K37 Gem 5. If he ever tried to escape, the field holding the planet in orbit would break and the planet would be sucked into the black hole.

The Beast claimed to have existed before the Universe, a claim the Doctor found difficult to accept. He may have originated in the previous Universe.the reason he found it hard to believe was that nothing was supposed to survive the end of the universe

The Beast spread his influence throughout the cosmos. He claimed that the devils and demons that appear in various religions were based on him. (DW: The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit) When Drew Blayney, leader of The Brimstone Skulls motorcycle club, was taken over by one of the ritual motorcycles, he drew upon the image of the Beast as one of his childhood fears. (TWM: Jetsam)

The Beast had a son known as Abaddon. (TW: End of Days)

Some also called the Beast itself Abbadon. Abaddon had a "nemesis" or "evil twin" known as Pwccm. It is unknown if Pwccm is also the son of the Beast. (TWN: The Twilight Streets)

The Beast possessed Toby Zed, a crew member of the Walker Expedition Sanctuary Base 6, via the text transcribed into the Krop Tor Notebook.

Through Zed, the Beast's first action was to kill Scooti Manista by breaking one of the windows (the Beast and those he possesses can survive in a total vacuum indefinitely). The Base's Ood were taken over. Upon the Ood's defeat, the Beast planned to escape by keeping his spirit in Toby's body, leaving his physical body behind. The Doctor deactivated the force holding Krop Tor in orbit.

The Beast's original body was destroyed when Krop Tor fell into K37 Gem 5 and his spirit is believed to have been destroyed when Toby's body was pulled into K37 Gem 5, although he claimed that he would never be truly destroyed. (DW: The Satan Pit)

Story Arc?

During the whole series (S1 to S4 and the 2009 Specials), there has been a lot of talking about the 'Never ending darkness'. The number 666 (Known to be the number of the beast) has also been said a lot of times in Doctor Who. There is evidence that the Beast may be returning at one point.

666

Here is part of episodes when they say 666:

In the episode "the Christmas invasion", The doctor says 6 three times when arguing to Harriet Jones that he can bring her empire down with 6 words.

In the episode midnight, when all the people in the car where talking to see if the person really was copying them, one of them said '666'.

In The Stolen Earth, Mr.Smith says that the TARDIS has landed in 'Vector 7, grid reference 666'.

In the Voyage of the Damned, when the Doctor is shouting out random numbers one of them is '666'.

The Darkness

There has been a lot of people talking about the darkness. Here is where they talk about it:

In The Unquite Dead the maid said 'The Darkness, the big Bad Wolf'. Notice how she says 'Big'. This may be a possible clue, or mybe not.

In midnight, when the 'dirvers' of the transport bus opened up the window and then closed it, one of them said that they saw something 'Something dark'. The beast refereded himself to the darkness. Strangly, the possesed woman in Midnight refferes to the small boy, 'He's waited so long, in the dark and the cold and the dimonds, intill you came'.

The small worker boy in Utopia said that his mum said that the skys where made of dimonds. The planet midnight was full of dimonds, but there was something there that was dark.

On the Sound of Drums, the Toclafane that where talking to The Master said 'We have to escape sir, because its coming! The darkness'.

At the end of the Planet of the Dead, the woman that could read minds says, 'It is returning, it is returning through the dark!'. This could be the Ood and the floating planet that got sucked into the black hole, or most likely, The Devil.

The Return of The Beast

The large monster at the end of the Torchwood episode End of Days looked like the beast.

The Toclafane in The Sound of Drums say that they have to 'Run and Rune and Run!'. From what?

In The Impossible Planet, it is shown that the Devil has the ability to posses people or living things. The woman in Midnight was possesed by something that was unclear and was never exsplained. She also could refer to the beast when she says 'Thats how he does it, he makes you fight, creeps into your head and whispers, listen, just listen, thats him, inside!'.

The possesed woman in Midnight wanted to kill the Doctor, but why not the other passengers? Maybe the devil possested her and wanted to get revenge.

In Blink at the end when it was zooming into statues, the first one was a devil with wings.

The Ood told the Doctor that they think that his song must end soon. The woman at the end of The PLanet of the Dead said that 'Your song is ending'.

Legions of the Beast

The Beast and his armies will rise from the pit to make war against God.The possessed Ood. [The Impossible Planet [src]]

The powerful mind of the Beast was able to take control of the Ood that accompanied the expedition at Krop Tor. This possession was highlighted when their eyes turned red and began quote the words of the Beast.
