In 1977, a number of things set in or relevant to the Doctor Who universe were released or published.

• 1 January - The Face of Evil Part One debuted on BBC1, introducing Louise Jameson as new companion Leela.
• 8 January - The Face of Evil Part Two debuted on BBC1.
• 15 January - The Face of Evil Part Three debuted on BBC1.
• 20 January - Doctor Who and the Carnival of Monsters was first published.
• 22 January - The Face of Evil Part Four debuted on BBC1.
• 26 January - Tom Baker was interviewed on the BBC Radio 4 program Woman's Hour.
• 29 January - The Robots of Death Part One debuted on BBC1. This saw the last appearance of the TARDIS's wood-panelled secondary control room, as the set got damp and warped whilst in storage.
• 5 February - The Robots of Death Part Two debuted on BBC1.
• 12 February - The Robots of Death Part Three debuted on BBC1.
• 17 February - Doctor Who and the Seeds of Doom was first published.
• 19 February - The Robots of Death Part Four debuted on BBC1.
• 26 February - The Talons of Weng-Chiang Part One debuted on BBC1.
• 3 March - Actor Sarah Smart was born.
• 5 March - The Talons of Weng-Chiang Part Two debuted on BBC1.
• 12 March - The Talons of Weng-Chiang Part Three debuted on BBC1.
• 19 March - The Talons of Weng-Chiang Part Four debuted on BBC1.
• 24 March - Doctor Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth was first published.
• 26 March - The Talons of Weng-Chiang Part Five debuted on BBC1.
• 2 April - The Talons of Weng-Chiang Part Six debuted on BBC1, concluding Season 14.
• 3 April - Whose Doctor Who, the very first televised documentary about Doctor Who, was first broadcast.
• 21 April - Doctor Who and the Claws of Axos was first published.
• To tie in with a certain broadcast, the Blue Peter series issued a Doctor Who Theatre Leaflet which allowed children to create their own theatre with cut-outs of the Fourth Doctor, Leela and two Daleks.
• 10 May - Doctor Who and the Ark in Space was first published. Written by Ian Marter, this was the first time an actor involved with the series had composed a novel based upon it; Marter wrote several more novelisations before his death less than a decade later.
• Tom Baker and Louise Jameson appeared on Pebble Mill at One on BBC One.
• 23 June - Doctor Who and the Brain of Morbius was first published.
• 18 August - Doctor Who and the Planet of Evil was first published.
• The Doctor Who Annual 1978 was published.
• Terry Nation's Dalek Annual 1978 was published.
• 3 September - Horror of Fang Rock Part One debuted on BBC1, starting Season 15. This was the only story to be recorded at the BBC's Pebble Mill Studios in Birmingham (the home of Pebble Mill at One), rather than at the BBC Television Centre in London.
• 10 September - Horror of Fang Rock Part Two debuted on BBC1.
• 17 September - Horror of Fang Rock Part Three debuted on BBC1.
• 24 September - Horror of Fang Rock Part Four debuted on BBC1.
• 29 September - Doctor Who and the Mutants was first published.
• 1 October - The Invisible Enemy Part One debuted on BBC1.
• 8 October - The Invisible Enemy Part Two debuted on BBC1. This episode saw the debut of K9, voiced by John Leeson.
• 15 October - The Invisible Enemy Part Three debuted on BBC1.
• 20 October - Doctor Who and the Deadly Assassin was first published.
• 20 October - The Second Doctor Who Monster Book was first published
• 22 October - The Invisible Enemy Part Four debuted on BBC1. K9 became the Doctor's first non-human companion.
• 29 October - Image of the Fendahl Part One debuted on BBC1.
• 5 November - Image of the Fendahl Part Two debuted on BBC1.
• 8 November - Graham Williams commissioned Moris Farhi to write a four-part script entitled The Divided. It was never produced.
• 12 November - Image of the Fendahl Part Three debuted on BBC1.
• 15 November - Doctor Who and the Talons of Weng-Chiang was first published.
• 17 November - Target Books launched a series of educational books under the banner Doctor Who Discovers. The first three books, published this date, were Doctor Who Discovers: Early Man, Doctor Who Discovers: Prehistoric Animals and Doctor Who Discovers: Space Travel. At this point as many as twenty-four books were planned for this series. Ultimately only two more saw print.
• 19 November - Image of the Fendahl Part Four debuted on BBC1.
• 26 November - The Sun Makers Part One debuted on BBC1.
• 3 December - The Sun Makers Part Two debuted on BBC1.
• 8 December - Doctor Who and the Masque of Mandragora was first published.
• 10 December - The Sun Makers Part Three debuted on BBC1.
• 17 December - The Sun Makers Part Four debuted on BBC1.
