A Sub-conscience reading reality device was a type of technology that allowed the user to communicate with beings that are not able to talk.
The Twelfth Doctor used one on a group of Cyclops and discovered that the beasts were refugees from a war that had destroyed their world and, after using his device to convert them to a vegetarian diet, the Doctor let Clara convince them to live in peace in the hills. (COMIC: Doctor on the Menu)
