User talk:Monkey with a Gun

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

I spend way too much time on this Wiki. Sigh. Monkey with a Gun 05:11, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

I think all of us do Monkey but It's worth it I reckon Bigshowbower 05:13, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Historical v. Futuristic?

Good point. Plus there's lots and lots of other science fiction stories set in the future or in outer space or both. It's such a cliché! DW is the only science fiction series to regularly set episodes in the past. It's part of what makes it unique! solar penguin/(talk)/(contribs) 11:20, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Merak

The reason I listed "human" as a race for Merak was that when the Doctor was talking to the Black Guardian he referred to Astra as "a human being." He might have been using it as a generic term, though, so maybe near-human would be better. mithrel

Real world stub

Hi, I appreciate the addition of the real world stubs to the various article pages, but it actually makes the articles harder to find as it adds a category to them. A lot of the time these pages just need the ext links and category (most often either Doctor Who/Torchwood or The Sarah Jane Adventures guest actors category). When they don't have a category the pages sit in the Special:UncategorizedPages which makes them easier to fix and clear out, while if they're all in the 'real world stub' category they're harder to differentiate from those pages that have other stub related issues or those lacking a category. (Hope that makes sense). Thanks. --Tangerineduel 13:34, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Page move

Thanks! I might be the only person in Western Canada with a copy of that Big Finish, so I'll be adding some stuff to it after I've listened to it. 23skidoo 18:22, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Another move needed

Sorry to trouble you again, but if you have a moment, could you please move A Room with a Deja View to Room with a Deja View. It's the new IDW Comics standalone and someone created it under the wrong title. Thanks again! 23skidoo 04:31, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

  • I didn't realize that! I'm used to the way things were at Wikipedia where you had to be an admin (as I am there) to do page moves. That certainly makes things simpler! Thanks for pointing that out -- I'll remember that in future. Cheers! 23skidoo 12:36, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Images

Hey, when you are uploading images to articles make sure you edit the images to the standard size of 250px. Thanks Bigshowbower 06:44, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Spelling mistakes (sorry...'typos')!

Hi! Thanks for the smoke! I do get tired and carried away sometimes not the best combination I know! If I do come across spelling errors on source material I would usually point them out, so no worries there. Americanwhofan seems to chasing me on picking up errors and leaving little notes under comments when I wish he would just change them for me when its obvious. I cant let him know this, apart from following him in discussion pages because he hasnt got a userpage, and Im not sure about deleting the discussion bit after Ive corrected it. Any ideas? Thanks by the way! The Librarian 00:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

question about a recent edit

Why did you remove "They were also used on New Earth in Gridlock ." from the article Credit. Americanwhofan 09:47, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Prop deletes to images

Hey, the prop delete can be added to image pages the same as regular pages. Adding it just makes admins a little more aware than just a note on the talk page. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 12:48, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

eeerrrmmm..... why have you vandalised the wiki? Oh right.... sorry Lu-igi board ps, using three tidels is better. look, no date :p

Dunno why you wouldn't want to have a date; the very point of the signature is that it gives a date. But that's not what I'm here to talk about. CzechOut | 17:31, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

Template:Merge

I certainly wouldn't suggest that the pic I've put there temporarily is the only thing that could be used, but I really don't like the idea of the meta-crisis Doctor being present at all. He's the opposite of a merger, really. Well, when put next to the real Tenth Doctor, anyway. They aren't the same thing at all, really. I might possibly buy an image of Donna and Meta during the moment of transformation, but even that's pretty obscure. The image that's there now clearly shows the act of merging. It's possible that the better thing is just to get rid of pics altogether with these templates, anyway. Sometimes, as in this case, they actually just make the box bigger and fatter than it needs to be. It'd probably be cleaner to go for something altogether more subtle, like a transparency of some kind, if there has to be a pic at all. CzechOut | 17:31, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

I played around with Mawdryn Undead, but the problem, for me, is that the sets are so damned busy in that episode that they drown out the point of the photograph at 50px. Instead, I've gone more Warrior's Gate, and done a quick transparency. I think it now instantly says "merger". You don't have to be a major Doctor Who fan to "get" it, but if you are, then you might be rewarded by noticing the Warrior's Gate tie-in. CzechOut | 22:02, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

Assistance with a discussion on the forums

Hi, I'd value your input/discussion on this topic in the forums Forum:Italics or Quotation marks?, I'm not comfortable making a ruling solely based on a running conversation between myself and CzechOut and would value other regular editors' points of view on this issue. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 06:34, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Christmas cheer

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!

Couple of issues

Hi! I had to delete the images you uploaded recently. The main issue is that you uploaded screen shots in .png, whereas all screenshots must be uploaded in .jpg. There were a couple of other issues with your images as well, including dimensions and placement on pages. Please take a look at our image policies, which are gathered in one spot at Thread:148148, before you upload any more images.

Also, I've removed the "delete" tags you placed on three articles. Some time back, it was decided that anything mentioned in a DWU story was worthy of having a page created about it. Therefore, these 3 articles do have value on the wiki. I can't remember where the forum decision is, but if/when I find it I'll post it here for you to read.

Thanks! Shambala108 16:59, July 2, 2014 (UTC)

Re:Image deletion/licensing

There is a program set up on this wiki to automatically delete images without licenses.

As for making it impossible to upload without a license, that kind of thing is beyond my technical ability, so I don't know if it's possible.

Finally. your suggestion that I "ask the user to add a license rather than force them to re-upload the image" seems like a workable idea, but for the most part it gets ignored, and the images remain without a license. The thing is, copyright issues are a very important issue. When we have so many new users incorrectly uploading images, it's impossible to keep track and get in touch with all of them. Shambala108 05:01, August 28, 2014 (UTC)

I've been too busy with other projects to upload any images, but when I get a chance, I'll take a look at the license selection dropdown and see if there's a way to make it more prominent. Shambala108 05:26, August 28, 2014 (UTC)
