Channel Islands
The Channel Islands were a group of islands located in the English Channel. Originally attached to mainland Europe via southern France in the distant past, they were the movement of tectonic plates broken them away over millions of years. Dragged by the forces of nature, they eventually settled in the English Channe. Britain and France disputed the ownership of the islands for centuries. The main islands were Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, along with other smaller islands which were largely ignored and forgotten about by the average Briton or Frenchman, including the southernmost island, L'Ithe, where a Silurian shelter was located. In 1939, time travelling Cybermen from the 30th century landed in Jersey. They fled to mainland Britain when the Germans invaded in 1940 at the start of World War II but left behind a sleeper force in the Le Mur Engineering compound which the Nazis began studying. In mid-November, the Seventh Doctor and Ace destroyed the compound to put an end to this research. (PROSE: Illegal Alien)
While under Nazi occupation in 1941, Guernsey was visited by the Seventh Doctor, Bernice Summerfield, Roz Forrester and Chris Cwej. There, the Luftwaffe were developing bombers invisible to British radar detection, and prepared to launch a devastating raid against Southampton as part of the Blitz if the United Kingdom did not surrender. In early March, the bomber, Munin, was stolen and destroyed. (PROSE: Just War, AUDIO: Just War)
In 1969, a group of hippies travelled to L'Ithe to set up a commune but left before one week, believing the island to be haunted. Media interest in the incident ebbed after a few weeks but Tom Renault continued to try and exploit the story of the "Haunted Island", hoping to create a tourist attraction. The Channel Island inhabitants were not enthusiastic about the idea. Tom was eventually killed by Sea Devils who used their method of underside burning to kill him in his boat near the Port of Guernsey. (PROSE: The Scales of Injustice)
In the 1970s, UNIT, led by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Captain Mike Yates and the Third Doctor, embarked on a mission to Sark to investigate crop circles. There they encountered Ikiria. (AUDIO: The Rings of Ikiria)
