An alien designer created a series of devices, planting a portrait of itself within the circuitry.

The designer was theorised by Owen Harper to be a member of a species which communicated via a short-range empathic sense. It built it's creations with artistry and care, art was more important to this creature than power conservation.

Creations

Each of the devices was different: no two were identical, but they were all alike. They were all pastel colours, from aquamarine to rose. Some the size of paperback books and some the size of oranges. They all had different purposes.

Within the circuitry, the designer planted an image of itself, a snapshot taken at the point when it designed that particular device. When placed in the correct order, the portraits told a life story. The final image showed the designer with another alien - a smaller version of itself. Toshiko Sato understood this alien to be the designer's offspring.

Items it designed included an emotional amplifier and a ray gun. (PROSE: Slow Decay)

Appearance

The face within the circuitry was differently proportioned to that of a human, more closely resembling a hammerhead shark. It had two eyes placed at the extremes of the head with a slit in the middle of the face. It had three large legs and two arms which emerged from either side of a thick neck.

In it's youth, the designer's skin was smooth, and it's eyes bright and firm. As it got older, it's skin wrinkled and it's hammerhead-like extensions drooped. (PROSE: Slow Decay)
