Beck's syndrome was a deadly disease. George suffered from the illness and went to Tranquil Repose, where he was put into suspended animation. Prior to this, he started a fund to find a cure for the disease. His wife eventually found one, but continued to pretend she hadn't forty years later so she could keep the fund money.
