Jane Templeton, who was a trainee Time Lord from Gallifrey, joined another Time Lord named Antak as part of a field trip to Earth as part of the Academy History Module 101 to study Assyrian cultural influences.
Travelling in the Time Vortex, the TARDIS encountered a freak surge and the TARDIS was damaged, stranding the two Time Lords on Earth during the days of Ancient Egypt. When they arrived they discovered they couldn't return home because they'd lost their time signature, and they lost their route.
They tried to integrate with the locals, but their arrival had been noticed and they were worshipped as gods which were against the Time Lords laws. Antak was considered to be Amun, Jane was considered to be Thoth by the locals while their TARDIS was disguised as a shabti figure by the chameleon circuit.
For a year everything was fine and then the Time Lords were blamed for crop failure causing an uprising.
Jane survived while Antak was killed, and the TARDIS was stolen and lost to her.
Stranded for centuries on Earth and living through twelve lifetimes while she struggled to look for her TARDIS and escape, Jane didn't recover the TARDIS until the year 1902. When it was dying, it sent out a telepathic call to her, making her go to Howard Carter for help in recovering it. At the time she met the Seventh Doctor, Ace, and Hex.
By then it was too late. After being neglected for centuries, the TARDIS was dying. It linked with the Doctor's TARDIS and partially recovered. The Doctor realised the TARDIS was dying, and he offered to help take the TARDIS to the heart of Sol and euthanise it.
Jane, knowing of the punishments towards Time Lords who posed as gods, opted to die with her ship. The Doctor tried to stop her, but she evaded him by slipping time-tracks and she died with her TARDIS.
Her last words were "remember Thoth." (AUDIO: False Gods)
