Major Lanz, representing Nazi Germany, assumed control of the British island of Guernsey by 6:30 on Sunday, 30 June in 1940. He set up residence in the Royal Hotel. Much of the population hardly noticed until Lanz issued a declaration to that effect at a later point. (PROSE: Just War)
