During the Thousand Year War, norm was a term used to refer to non-mutated Kaleds and Thals as opposed to the Mutos. In response to the treatment of his kind, Gerrill of the Mutos believed all norms to be enemies who should be killed. Sarah Jane Smith, a human, was identified as a norm when she was captured by the Mutos. Gerrill intended to kill her but was stopped by Sevrin. Sevrin and Sarah Jane were then captured by a Thal patrol, with one soldier observing that Sarah Jane was "almost a norm". (TV: Genesis of the Daleks)
