Donald Henry Cotton[2] (26 April 1928[3]-28 December 1999[4]) wrote the Doctor Who television stories The Myth Makers and The Gunfighters. He also wrote the Target Books novelisations of these two stories, as well as The Romans.

Outside of Doctor Who, Cotton had an extensive career writing for radio, and by several accounts it was his prestige that attracted big-name Shakespearean actors such as Max Adrian and Barrie Ingham to The Myth Makers.[5][6]
