A chemistry set was a toy for children.

Ten-year-old Henry Bergson wanted a chemistry set that included a galvanometer kit, a poster of the periodic table and samples of chemicals. His father wouldn't buy him one, but the Seventh Doctor gave him one, pretending that he had accidentally bought an extra one. (PROSE: Presence)
