An incarnation of the Doctor was active in 1988. She was the "first female Dr Who". She redesigned the interior of her TARDIS by adding wallpaper and carpet because she believed it would make the place more homely. One decorator at her disposal used pink paint. (NOTVALID: The Next 20 Years)
Behind the scenes
Introduced in 1983, this Doctor was the first female Doctor introduced in any medium. Joanna Lumley's Thirteenth Doctor in 1999's The Curse of Fatal Death was the first incarnation of the Doctor played by a woman onscreen but it was not until Jodie Whittaker debuted as the Thirteenth Doctor in 2017's Twice Upon a Time that the Doctor was played by a woman in a regular episode.
