Also the phrasing implies a new calendar year has passed, especially when Lance has apparently been at Park Vale for less time than Clyde.)

Simon Metcalf was the father of Lance Metcalf and the husband of Carrie Metcalf.

He died in action, serving in Iraq just before Christmas. (PROSE: Warriors of Kudlak)
