Dummy

Dummies, (PROSE: Dummy Massacre, The Doctor Was Involved in the Dummy Massacre, etc.) mannequins (PROSE: Operation Mannequin, AUDIO: Night of the Fendahl, COMIC: A Little Help from My Friends, etc.) display dummies, (PROSE: Operation Mannequin) shop window dummies, (TV: Rose, Born Again, Love & Monsters) or simply shop dummies. (COMIC: Supremacy of the Cybermen) were artificial humanoid figures, constructed from plastic, generally used to display clothing. As such, they were typically seen behind the windows of Earth shops.

Though naturally inanimate, their plastic bodies made them to susceptible to manipulation by the Nestene Consciousness, who used them to attack humans during its numerous attempts to conquer the planet Earth. To that end, the Autons were fitted with a concealed wrist-gun within their hands. (TV: Spearhead from Space, Rose)

After the so-called "Dummy Massacre" on 26 March 2005, (PROSE: The Doctor Was Involved in the Dummy Massacre) there were reports of mass burnings of dummies (PROSE: Dummy Massacre) and people vowed to boycott shops with dummies, but soon went back on their word, although the shops did remove the hands of the dummies, a glimmer of acknowledgement of the attack that had unfolded not long before. (PROSE: The Doctor Was Involved in the Dummy Massacre)

During a visit to Ealing Broadway in 1990, the Seventh Doctor eyed the window displays of store manikins with curiosity and suspicion. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible)
