Harriet Cathryn King, born 1 June 1998, was the daughter of Harry King and his wife Sandra, who was the only sister of Giles, the director of P.R.O.B.E..

Because Sandra and Giles were estranged by the time she was born, Giles was not made aware of her existence, and throughout her childhood, her mother warned her off talking to or seeking out her "mental" Uncle Giles. As a youth, she frequented a gym, and she later successfully applied to a prestigious university; by 2019, as well as working as a lab assistant at Modernex Labs, she had several minor research papers to her name. She began seeing a young man named Jonathan at a coffee shop after hours, unaware that he was actually a member of the occult terrorist group Beltane using her to get at the Ogden Farm sample that Modernex held for study.

One day, however, while out shopping on Oxford Street with her mother, Harriet was glimpsed from afar by Giles, who was busy chasing a different member of Beltane. He learned more about Harriet thanks to Maxie Masters's way with databases, and sought her out at the coffee shop she frequented, warning him about Jonathan's true intention. At first she thought that his conspiracy-tinted ramblings confirmed all her mother's warnings, but when Jonathan recognised Giles on sight and fled without saying a word to her, Harriet realised in horror that it was all true. She followed Giles in his chasing of Jonathan to Modernez Labs, where she used her pass to let him, Tasha and Bedevere in after Jonathan. She witnessed a shootout between Jonathan and three other Beltane agents, and the P.R.O.B.E. operatives — with all the Beltane members but Jonathan dying. She was profoundly shocked by the experience, though she was not physically harmed. However, she still found enough energy to follow Jonathan to the roof and talk him down from using the Ogden Farm sample to destroy London, getting him to admit that he did actually care about her and no longer felt that all modern life deserved to be wiped out.

After these experiences, Harriet agreed to meet up with her "Uncle Giles" every now and then, though she made it clear she did not wish to be involved in any other life-threatening P.R.O.B.E. adventures herself, and would not pursue a career in the Bureau. (AUDIO: Broken Bonds)
