User talk:RedWizard98
Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!
We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
- a list of people whose job it is to help you
If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! — you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:
Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. SOTO ☎ 22:46, December 2, 2018 (UTC)

Harry Potter
Hi, since you are apparently new to the wiki, there are a few things you might not realize about how we do things here. We have in-universe articles that are written in the past tense and can only contain information from stories, not the real world, and must be properly cited to the story or stories in question. The information you added to Expelliarmus was what we call "real world" information and it does not belong in the main sections of an in-universe article. That's why we have behind-the-scenes sections for these articles, where real world information can be added. And if an admin ever changes or reverts your edits and you wonder why, feel free to ask on our talk pages. Thanks for your attention Shambala108 ☎ 03:57, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Well in response, there wasn't anything preventing you moving this information to BTS, as I've just done, since it was not incorrect per se, and it was also written in the past participle. I also am not new to the wiki FYI, I've been around for some time, just infrequently edited as I use other Fandoms more, and also aware of most wiki policies too. Kind regards anyway. Fairies category
Hey! Thank you for reaching out, but do note that categories can only stand if they contain at least three pages. Currently, Category:Individual Fairies contains only one page. Are there more pages you intend to add to this category? If not, it, too, should be deleted. Scrooge MacDuck ⊕ 20:46, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, also, please don't ask multiple admins for the same thing at once — unless it's an actual emergency like a runaway vandal who needs blocking, I suppose. Wait at least a couple of days to see if the first admin you contacted gets to your request, before you try to alert somebody else. Scrooge MacDuck ⊕ 20:48, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
Image sizes
I just wanted to let you know before you got into any trouble that the wiki doesn't abide by image sizes like other wikis, their natural size is used instead of enlarging or shrinking them.BananaClownMan 06:29, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for informing me. RedWizard98 ☎ 06:32, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
Re: Images
Thank you for checking.
The fact of the matter is that, indeed, you aren't permitted to manually set the image size — you're just supposed use the automated thumbnail size — and that, for most purposes, only JPG files are allowed. You should read through T:GTI to learn more. I personally agree the rules could stand to be a little looser, but policy is still policy until it's officially changed, and individual users (even individual admins) do not have the power to unilaterally change them to suit our preferences without a community Forum thread to build a consensus. And quite right too. So for now, please do read about the current rules and abide by them…!
If you give me a list of deleted PNG images I may be able to do the work of reuploading them as JPGs (deleted files are actually stored within the servers, it's just that only admins can access them). Although users really should keep their images on their local devices for a little time after uploading, just in case something goes wrong! That's something I'd advise on any website.
As concerns the "gorey" image, File:BBQ Man.jpg is fine, so I suppose this would be as well, provided it's serving an actual encyclopedic purpose rather than being gratuiotus. The Wiki is officially not kid-friendly (because frankly, no entirely child-friendly Wiki could cover Torchwood writ large in a sensible way). But note that, through no decision of our own, there are circumstances where we have to refuse to host images even though they come from valid DWU stories; namely, situations where Fandom's Terms of Use trump our local rules. Most famously this came up with regards to images of frontal male nudity from Zygon: When Being You Just Isn't Enough a few years back. Scrooge MacDuck ⊕ 13:43, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
Re:Fandom
Unfortunately, Fandom (the host) won't archive the old site or put a notice up about the new one, even though the editor base has largely moved to the fork. So most of the editing activity is here, the most up to date versions of pages are largely here, but the old host refuses to direct people here. (Because they make money off of people going to the old, outdated site, regardless of how bad it is.) Najawin ☎ 23:03, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
