The League of Extraterrestrial Gentlemen was an unproduced novel pitched by Dale Smith to Justin Richards for the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures in 2004. It was meant to commemorate the upcoming 20th anniversary of Robert Holmes' death in 2006 by featuring at least one character from every Doctor Who story Holmes had written, including Jago and Litefoot from The Talons of Weng-Chiang. The characters would have been brought together in an homage to Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. In outlining the pitch, Smith was advised by Craig Hinton.

The story was rejected, but when the Shelf Life charity anthology was being organised in Hinton's memory, Smith adapted the pitch into a short story.[1]
