Turlough convinced Ibbotson to aid in taking Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart's vintage car for a joyride, then framed him as being responsible for it. Vislor Turlough believed that Ibbotson was a bore and that this was the reason that he had few friends. He was thick-skinned and unaffected by Turlough's insults, even being pleased at being given the nickname of "Hippo" as it was public evidence of their friendship.
