A new Gondwana continent came from the breakup of the Earth supercontinent of Pangaea along with Laurasia, from which it was separated by what would become the Gulf of Mexico, in the Jurassic. In the Cretaceous, Gondwana split into South America, Antarctica, Australia and India whilst, in the north, Laurasia began to split into what would become North America and Asia.
