Androgums were a barbaric, primitive humanoid race that were used for menial labour in the Third Zone.

Biology

Androgums were Human-like in basic appearance, but with large orange eyebrows and grey warts around their face. Androgums had a heavy build, being able to easily overpower a Human. They also had enormous appetites, being able to consume massive amounts of food with little discomfort. (DW: The Two Doctors) They were also significantly tougher than a human; Roz Forrester once punched an Androgum on the chin and only broke her fist. (NA: Shakedown)

Culture

The main trait of the Androgums was their love of food and eating, as they possessed nearly insatiable appetites. Androgum law was that the gratification of pleasure is the sole motive of action. Androgums would eat nearly anything, including vermin and intelligent species (even their own, it is implied).

Androgums were split into clans called Grigs, such as the Quawncing and Franzine Grigs. These Grigs were of great importance to the Androgums, leading to a strong loyalty to their bloodline. (DW: The Two Doctors)

Androgums had a recipe for a food called Sugary Shiplanos. The drink became a favourite among them. (NSA: Snowglobe 7)

The Androgums had a cooking instrument called the boomerang spoon. (PDA: Storm Harvest)

History

On the Space Station Chimera, Androgums were often employed as workers or subjects for experiments. Many Androgums were used in the temporal experiments of Kartz and Reimer, though all were successful there was no way of retrieving them so many Androgums may litter the future and past. Another Androgum, Chessene, was artificially augmented in intelligence by Dastari. A number of androgums on Chimera were killed in the Sontaran attack. (DW: The Two Doctors)

At some point before 2099, an Androgum Space Hopper crashed in the Bristol channel, where the Humans found the recipe for Sugary Shiplano's. (NSA: Snowglobe 7)

Edwin Bryce wrote a book called Androgum Cookery for Novices: How to Master the Boomerang Spoon. (PDA: Storm Harvest)
