Howling:Beast Below: Amy's recording?
After Amy presses the "forget" button, she sees a video of herself telling her to get the Doctor off of the ship and leave. I was a little unclear on when she made this - upon first viewing, I figured it'd be some sort of timey wimey thing, sending a message to herself in the past. But that wasn't the case as far as I could see. So, did she record it after seeing the truth of the ship but before having her memory erased? That wouldn't make sense to me, either, since that'd defeat the purpose of a memory erasing device if it let people send a message to themselves first. I'm sure I'm just being a little thick and missing something, anyone got the answer? TweedJacket 21:32, April 18, 2010 (UTC)
They show a Record button, so presumably they _do_ normally let people record a message to themselves before pressing Forget.
I assume they check over the recordings before playing them back, to censor any recordings that would undo the forgetting. But there are all kinds of things that would be reasonable--a message you might want to send to yourself after forgetting to convince yourself that you'd done the right thing without explaining what you'd decided, a message to be played before or after the video next time you vote, etc.
And, whether it's an artificially intelligent computer doing the censoring or the Queen's agents, it seems reasonable that they'd accept Amy's message as one that could be safely played back after forgetting. In fact, considering that the Queen knows about The Doctor and has asked people to look out for him eventually showing up to fix things, they'd be even more likely to allow that particular message. --166.135.137.95 22:25, April 18, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, there we go. I knew I must have missed something. And yeah, that explanation makes sense and in hindsight it does make perfect sense to have the recording thing there. Thanks much! TweedJacket 03:27, April 19, 2010 (UTC)
Well, we know Liz 10 made a recording to play back to herself. Still think here is more to this though, as the Doctor said the memory wipe erased about 20 minutes, so what else did we not see that went on in the booth during that time? The way we saw Amy being given the info was at ultra speed and she seemed to press the forget button immediately this finished without any heitation or even thought process? But, could this memory wipe also be why she didn't remember the Daleks in VOD? 86.26.137.154 04:15, April 19, 2010 (UTC)
