Toby Avery was the son of Henry Avery. He was cared for by his mother and brought up to believe that his father was a naval officer with the British Navy. After three years, his mother died of a fever and he sought out his father. Toby managed stowed away on his ship, The Fancy, and went unnoticed until the ship was attacked by the Siren. He was eventually discovered, and learned the truth: his father was a pirate.
