Sugar MacAuley meets The Doctor during the maiden voyage of a new "Quantum Transpositional Vehicle", so fast that it can travel from Lunar Base to the Larger Magellenic Cloud in just under 90 minutes. Sugar is working as an "Executive Class Comfort Mediator" for Novalunar Corporation and has earned her place on the ship by lottery.
While Sugar is reminiscing about her "Auntie" who lived in the Toronto Towers, Sugar mentions that she had never seen a bird before, suggesting that she also lived in the large city.
