By the 18th December 1845 it was common gossip that Charles Dickens had stolen the character of Mr Pickwick for his book, The Pickwick Papers, from his artist, Seymour. While in London on this date, Dickens found that even "tramps" had heard the tale. (NA: The Death of Art)
