The Da Gama was a deep space probe captained by Admiral Vayle. The Seventh Doctor once materialised on board the vessel to discover that the ship was largely on autopilot, and that Vayle was in a form of suspended animation in which he was continuously experiencing a virtual reality. At the time, the ship was in the 13th year of its mission. (IHP: Technical Hitch)
