McGovern was an nurse.

She was part of an expedition in Antarctica in 1999 which discovered the base of the Elder Things. When one of the medics was driven insane by the psychically hostile environment and tried to kill Hume, she was forced to shoot him. (PROSE: The Taking of Planet 5)
