Placement of stories with no TV companions[[edit source]]
The only place where we can put stories that feature 5 without any TV companions is during the brief time he traveled without Nyssa. Any other placement is irrational and based off of fan theories. I've noticed, for instance, that Time on a Vine was placed near the end of the Fifth Doctor's biography with the statement "before picking up Peri..." I have read that story. At no point is there any suggestion that the Doctor is on his way to pick someone up, or that he is also traveling with Peri, and more specifically that he is doing what the writer here has said he was doing. Thus this is speculation.
Other suggestions that some DWM strips can be set while the Doctor goes off to run this errand or that it's just a side step don't work because they don't fit the tone of the story. So unless there's another story other than the one noted, adding these stories to any section but the break in Nyssa travels is simply not feasible. - We can't rely on lack of companions to place a story. In Conscription, the Doctor tells Sarah he often pops out while she's asleep; the Night and the Doctor stories establish that the Doctor often has adventures while his companions remain in the TARDIS.
