Dr. Who was a fictional mad scientist in the 1967 Japanese King Kong film King Kong Escapes. He was an example of the "oriental wise-man" stereotype that originated with Dr. Nie Who. (PROSE: The Adventuress of Henrietta Street)

Behind the scenes

A character called Dr. Who indeed appeared in Kong Kong Escaped, played by Hideyo Amamoto. He was a revamped version of a villainous roboticist earlier depicted in the animated King Kong series produced by Rankin-Bass Productions, but his appearance and attire was changed to faintly resemble William Hartnell's First Doctor. It is generally held that the similarities with the BBC character were coincidental.[source needed]
