Talk:Maelstrom (The Tides of Time)

Maelstrom[[edit]]
- The comic The Tides of Time (comic story) treats the Maelstrom quite differentky to how the Maelstrom is used within Iris Wildthyme stories. In the Wildthyme stories, "Maelstrom" appears to just be a colloquialism for the Time Vortex, as they work identically, whereas the Maelstrom in The Tides of Time is an unnatural time anomaly that is later destroyed. What I think could work is if the info about the Maelstrom from Iris Wildthyme to be moved to the Time Vortex page, and this page to be possibly renamed to Maelstrom (The Tides of Time).

- That certainly can't be done. To begin with, there's no guarantee that anything that works like a DW thing in an Iris story will be the same thing; Iris, after all, works significantly like the Doctor. And we know that the Very Fabric of Time and Space, which you might also assume is a stand-in for the Vortex, is distinct from it, so why not the Maelstrom as well?
- Additionally, there's an issue of licenses. Even if we knew for sure that the Maelstrom was intended to be the DWU Time Vortex, a lot of the stories which use the Maelstrom don't have the license to use Doctor Who's Time Vortex, so we can't acknowledge them as the same thing. (Unless, of course, a story licensed to use both "the Maelstrom" and "the Vortex" acknowledges them to be the same in so many words.)
- I can see us splitting the Maelstrom page between one about the Tides of Time Maelstrom and about the Magrs Maelstrom, although I feel like the two may well be the same; it would fit Iris's style to use a random anomaly to travel, wouldn't it? But we cannot cover Iris's Maelstrom on Time Vortex. Absolutely not. --Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 09:11, June 21, 2020 (UTC)
- Having looked at depiction of Iris's Maelstrom in other stories, I think it's clear that it's neither the Time Vortex nor Melanicus's Maelstrom. I'm in favour of a split between Maelstrom (The Tides of Time) and The Maelstrom, with the page Maelstrom instead being about the concept in general. --Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 16:09, July 18, 2020 (UTC)
